Touring Scotland

One of the greatest mistakes visitors to Scotland often make is limiting their stay to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Scotland is chock-full of interesting places besides these, most of which have managed to avoid being spoilt by high tourist foot-fall in recent years.

Aberdeenshire is home to many unique attractions, one of the most well known being Balmoral castle, which was bought by the royals during the Victorian period and remains one of the royal family's residences. The castle is open to the public at certain times of the year and it is one of the more popular tourist attractions in Aberdeenshire , with guided walks being regularly provided for visitors eager to learn more about the castle's history and the Royal Family.

However, there is a great deal more on offer to visitors who come to Aberdeenshire aside from visiting historic locations. The county is well known for its outstanding natural beauty and it is home to three fantastic nature reserves that are incredibly popular with wildlife enthusiasts keen to see some of the Scottish wildlife in its natural habitat. Investing in a good pair of binoculars before you go will ensure you don't miss a thing.

However, if you're interested in doing something a little more exciting than strolling through the countryside there is always the city of Aberdeen that you can visit. However, despite the name the city is not officially part of the county, or ‘council area' of Aberdeenshire as it is managed by its own local authority. Nevertheless the city of Aberdeen is located right in the middle of Aberdeenshire and has a number of attractions that are likely to interest people of all ages and walks of life.

If you're thinking of taking a city break then Aberdeen is an ideal choice, particularly if you'd like to combine a visit to the city with some of the more relaxing countryside pursuits available in Aberdeenshire.
